Career & Work

A decade ago, I was earning $400k+ as a managing consultant.

Now? I work 3 days a week on a 6-month contract for a government, making around $200k. I’m an international specialist in my field, so I choose work purely for interest. Oh, and I’m technically retired. My pensions and investments add another $300k a year, half of it tax-free. Right now? I am writing this from a lounge in the Maldives before my first-class flight back to London. I’m genuinely trying to spend it all. Why am I telling you this? At some point, money stops being the main thing. The work itself becomes the reward. It might take a while to get there, so persevere. And don’t forget, eventually, you have to enjoy what you’ve earned. Seriously. Enjoy it.

Honestly this isn't really a vulnerable share, it reads more like a motivational post or a humble brag dressed up as advice. PorchTalk is a space for people carrying heavy things. If there's something real underneath this that you're actually struggling with, we are here for that.
